Shopping

I had a great birthday week! Lots of well wishes, some wonderful company, great food and fun times! Watch out 30's, here I come!

In other news- Christmas shopping. Lots of it. And by Christmas shopping I mean torture like acid peeling my skin off. Because, well, I had to park NEXT DOOR to the mall since every single space was filled at the mall. Even the spaces that are so far away that only the BMW's usually park there and then they take up two spots and you secretly want to key them just for being snotty assholes. Even those spots.

THEN- I had to walk my cute little 4-year old all the way to the mall. And by walk I mean drag her by her little frozen hand, through the slush and puddles and mounds of snow, while her pants got soaked up to her knees. And THEN I had to rent a $5 stroller because I was out of town for the weekend and forgot mine at home. And this $5 stroller didn't even have a drink holder! Why else does a person even use a stroller? SO, then the adorable 4-year old insists on having a drink anyway, and naturally, with no drink holder, spills it all over within the first 7 seconds. THEN I have to wave over the nice young hispanic janitor and notify her of the wet floor so she can mop it up or put a sign up, or do something productive about it. She gave me a dirty look and I thought I heard some muttering about "estupido blanco chica!" I think it meant Merry Christmas or something?

What's the deal with a birthday???

Someone asked me recently, what was my favorite birthday memory ever? I had to stop and think. I always had nice birthdays growing up. They weren't fancy, but there was always a homemade cake, mom spaghetti, family and more presents than I'm sure my mom could afford!

My favorite birthday memory might be one night in high school. We had a basketball game that day. Basketball was always my favorite sport and I loved game nights. I remember we actually won! (Which anyone that knows anything about our team knows that was a RARE occasion!) After the game, my best friend and I, still in our jerseys, met my mom and brother and my grandma's house. She and I skipped dinner and ate cake and ice cream until we felt sick. Because what high schooler worries about eating too much sugar! I knew money was tight, and my mom had just splurged on buying the "team shoe" that I HAD to have, so I didn't care about getting anything else. But at the end of the night I did have a present. It was something I had been begging for! It was a basketball hoop. I knew right then and there that my dreams of playing college basketball could finally be fulfilled!!! (I digress...)

I hate to ruin the story by telling the rest of what happened to that gift... so I leave you with the happy ending and will finish it another day!
